Movie Review: Mary Queen of Scots

The historical drama, starring Margot Robie and Saorise Ronan, is about the life of Mary, Elizabeth's cousin and rival, during the 1500's.  The movie looks authentic.  It flips between Scotland and England, showing the fear both women have for the other.  As a Stuart, Mary has a legit claim for Elizabeth's crown as well.  England breaks away from the Catholic church and many Catholics are bitter.  She has a chance to hold both thrones, but in the end, blows it by surrounding herself with a disloyal court, disloyal half-brother, and drunkard fool for a husband.  Her son James rules both Scotland and England because Elizabeth had no children.  The ending is an unhappy one for Mary.  She is imprisoned for twenty-five years and then beheaded.

My Review: The acting is great, as are the costumes, setting, and script.  Great film!  Anyone who like Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett and the TV show The Tudors will really like this film.  My movie friends just saw The Favorite which is historically linked with this film.  4.5/5 stars.
