Movie Review: Call of the Wild

I had the utmost pleasure of seeing Call of the Wild with my mother and daughter yesterday afternoon.  Call of the Wild by Jack London was my mother's  favorite childhood book, and she was most excited to go to the theater and see it come to life on the big screen.
Call of the Wild, starring Harrison Ford, is about a St. Bernard mix dog who is stolen from his rich owner and taken away from his cushy life inside of a Victorian mansion.  The dog travels all the way to Alaska where most of the story takes place.
Buck embarks upon one adventure after another. At times, the dog is abused, spoiled, and eventually loved.  He leads a sled dog team, saves lives, makes friends, becomes a leader, and gives an old man hope.  The dog puts the saint in St. Bernard.  Spoiler Alert-Buck doesn't die, but his owner does.  The dog finds a home and family of his own with the wolves in the wild.

My Review: The dog and other animals in the movie are animated, but you can't tell. They look realistic.  The computer developers outdid themselves in terms of details, facial expressions, fur, and movements.  The Alaskan scenery was breathtaking.  The story followed the classical book and brought tears to my eyes in several parts, especially the end when Harrison Ford dies.  I became entrenched with the story and fell in loved with the dog.

Image result for st bernardThis is a 5 star no-brainer.  I recommend this movie to anyone who loves dogs.  You'll leave the theater wanting to bring home a St. Bernard pooch!
