Seventeen-year-old Kelly is in a spartan boarding school in northern Idaho, sent away for drugs—as planned. Her little brother Sammy is left home in Missouri, getting ready for high school. He is twitchy, quick, writes dark poetry and longs to play football. He’s also got a nose for trouble, and Kelly has left a sordid truckload. Her sadistic ex is involved, so is one twisted teacher, and so is the object of Sammy’s crush. He’s in deep, and Kelly’s warnings fall flat, and the consequences will be dire.

About the Author

After adolescence survived in the Midwest and a few obligatory years at the university, Idyllwild Eliot embarked on a journey of internal and external exploration. With stints in Houston, Louisiana, and even Thailand, where she studied yoga, Ms. Eliot has become a semi-professional vagabond. Most recently (at the time of publication) she has been experiencing the North American west. If not sipping a cocktail on a deck in the northern Rockies, she might be found bodysurfing in Southern California, watching Bald Eagles in Montana, or in some other picturesque town hiking, meditating, or sitting with her laptop open and, at its side, a stout mug of black coffee. Well Below Heaven is her debut.

Warning if you are offended easily, this is NOT the book for you. I repeat, NOT the book you are looking for. Put the book down, back away slowly, and run like hell.

Reading a book about two drunk superheroes who have absolutely no superpowers can lead to uncontrollable laughter; loud piggish snorting; loss of bladder control; wild rolling of eyes; repeated statements of, “Oh gawd;” and slight head shaking, wondering what the fuck you have gotten yourself into. The good news, however, is it will not cause you to have an erection, much less one lasting over 4 hours. So you will not need to call your doctor, although calling your friend to brag may be an option. But that is not to say that you will not need therapy after reading this book because, when Snafu Fubar: Nothing Heroic hit the bookstores, people said, “You can't possibly get any worse. This is the most fucked up book ever.” From the depths of my creative subconscious, I smelled the whiff of a freshly lit cigar and heard Snafu Fubar: Soberphobics whisper oh, so lightly into the breeze...“You ain’t seen nothing yet. Hold my beer!”

THE FABERGÉ ENTANGLEMENT

Sabinne ‘Saber’ Darrieux’s father, the billionaire CEO of Frontenac Global Security has been kidnapped. His ransom is not cash in a numbered offshore account, or a briefcase of Bearer Bonds but something utterly unique, incredibly valuable, and until recently, hidden away from the world.

The kidnapper seems to know Saber very well and knows that the next day, through her work as an elite translator she will be in the same location as the Object. She must steal the Object and deliver it to the kidnapper to ransom her father.

Adrian Steele, a British Intelligence agent has just come off of two harrowing missions. Upon returning to London for a well-earned rest, he learns that his friend and a fellow agent have been murdered in Moscow, but not before he made use of a unique Object as a mobile ‘drop site’ for the valuable intelligence he was carrying.

The drop site is traveling from Moscow to England. Steele insists on completing the mission to honor the death of his friend, Gerry Cornell.

At an ultra-chic quasi-diplomatic gathering in a mansion in Windsor, England, Saber and Steele meet and find themselves faced with a powerful, undeniable attraction. But at the moment, this compelling attraction is very inconvenient.

In reality, they are at the mansion to check out the security arrangements — for their own reasons — to steal the Object, a Fabergé egg worth thirty million dollars. But who will get to the egg first?

Fabergé eggs are very famous for their unique surprises. Saber and Steele are about to be very surprised, indeed.

And when Saber clashes with Steele; more than sparks will explode!

Review: The Fourth Prophecy by Ernest Dempsey

The Fourth Prophecy by Ernest Dempsey is about two men, Sean and Tommy, who are hired by a congresswoman to find an artifact mentioned in a Spanish explorer's diary.  The quest takes Sean and Tommy to Mexico and South America.  They encounter guerrillas, CIA, drug cartels, and wildlife of the rain forest as they search for clues.  While they are decoding Mayan symbols, dishonest congressmen and women are killed one by one back in Washington D.C.  Eventually, the two story lines come together.
My Review: This is my first Ernest Dempsey novel.  He took me to faraway places and added just enough history to keep me interested and entertained.  His characters have humor and depth, and the story had plenty of action.  I enjoyed the book from cover to cover and will definitely buy another one from the Sean Wyatt series.  I didn't know any of the characters from other books, but that didn't matter as each story stands alone.  I couldn't help but think of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys as I read.  Dempsey puts an adult and modern splash on genre.  Great read for mystery lovers! 5/5 Stars.

Near panic, she hires a local taxi. The driver drugs her, steals everything, and dumps her limp body in a slum. Waking in the dark, she feels someone tugging off her shoes.

Without money, a passport, clothes, or medications, Lizzie is forced to start over and find a way to survive.

Soon she learns that nothing in Africa is as it appears. The grind of daily life in the third-world is beyond anything Lizzie imagined. Nevertheless, encouraged by budding friendships in surprising places, and against every sensible instinct she’s ever developed, Lizzie’s own personal search for meaning becomes the grand adventure of a lifetime.

VBT: The Unlounging by Selraybob

 photo unnamed_zpsgojgd4ii.jpg
Literary / Humor
Date Published: December 2017
Publisher: Cur Dog Press

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Not yet thirty, and already Selraybob is beaten down and washed up. He spends his days on his lounger, drinking quarts of beer and talking to his buddy Herm on the phone. Until, during his wife’s long overdue kiss-off speech, he notices two clocks. They’re seven minutes off. And he has an epiphany. Time, he decides, is a count. It’s only a count.

Einstein was wrong.

And life on the lounger will never be the same.

About the Author

Selraybob is a philosopher, writer, and, given his modest Missouri background, one of the least expected deep thinkers on the planet. His theory of time—that Einstein and Hawking and the rest of the spacetime preachers are misguided to the point of lunacy—has invited ridicule and hatred and threats of violence. He has become, arguably, an iconoclast. Selraybob continues to pursue Time, related physics theories, and, with the help of his buddy Herm, Herm’s wife Susy Liu Anne, and a small but growing band of supporters, battle the narrow minds of the Time Fixers.
