Diet Magazine Challenge: Changing Things Up

The first week of January I began taking diets from magazine and trying them out on myself.  I had some success with the Paleo style diets which were low in carbs and sugar,  I'm still down five pounds for the month, but need to kick it in high gear.  There were birthdays and a weekend getaway (in other words-life) that detracted me from meeting my goal.  February is renewing my personal challenge.  This month I am going to start with the grapefruit diet.  The diet lasts for 12 days and the menu is as follows: 


Foods You Can Eat (link pasted)

  • Green vegetables, including bell peppers, green beans, broccoli, cucumbers, leaf spinach, lettuce, cabbage
  • Red onions
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Coleslaw
  • Chili without beans
  • Hot dogs
  • Lean meats
  • Chicken
  • Bacon
  • Fish
  • Cottage cheese
  • Squash
  • Eggs
  • Regular salad dressing
  • Tuna
  • Pork chops
  • Grapefruit
  • Condiments and spices, including herbs, salt, pepper, vinegar, lemon Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, and mustard.

    The following suggested menus will get you started.

    Day One

    • Breakfast - Breakfast should include one cup of coffee or tea, 2 eggs or 2 slices of bacon, and ½ grapefruit.
    • Lunch - Include chicken, fish, or lean beef, salad, and one cup of coffee or tea.
    • Supper - Include broiled fish, salad, and one grapefruit.

    Day Two

    • Breakfast- Include one cup of coffee or tea (a sugar substitute is allowed when you drink coffee or tea), ½ grapefruit, 2 eggs or 2 bacon slices.
    • Lunch - Include a fruit salad and one cup of coffee.
    • Supper - Include lean beef patty (no bread) and cooked vegetables.

    Day Three

    • Breakfast - Include one cup of coffee or tea, ½ grapefruit, 2 eggs or 2 slices of bacon.
    • Lunch - Include a tuna salad and a grapefruit.
    • Supper - Include lean beef or pork chops, salad, and coffee.

    Day Four

    • Breakfast - Include one cup coffee or tea, ½ grapefruit, 2 eggs or 2 slices of bacon.
    • Lunch - Include 2 eggs, cottage cheese, squash, and cup of coffee.
    • Supper - Include lean beef or grilled or broiled chicken, spinach, and coffee.

    Day Five

    • Breakfast - Include one cup of coffee or tea, ½ grapefruit, and 2 eggs or 2 slices of bacon.
    • Lunch - Include dry cheese and spinach.
    • Supper - Include broiled fish or chicken, cooked vegetables, and coffee.
