Book Review: Defending the Dream by George Dalton

Defending the Dream by [Dalton, George]

Defending the Dream is a WWII novel about a pilot, Charles Ray McClanton, who ends up flying a P51.  The plane was equipped with Rolls Royce engines and managed to protect the other fighter jets during combat.  George's character helps win the war.
The story has a ton of combat action, history, and even romance.  Charles has a couple of women he falls for.  Without giving anything away, he loses some loved ones, but finds a woman to settle down with.
My Review: As always with George, I learned something new while being completely entertained.  I knew very little about the aircraft.  George weaves in how the war could have been lost had it not been for the defense engineers and air force coming up with innovating ideas.  I love how George uses prayer in his characters' actions.  George has some twists and turns.  Some characters don't make it, and some characters end up as complete disappointments.  For example, the US pilot who paints Nazi symbols on his plane after killing Germans really messes up during a battle.  Although this novel is stand alone, it's part of a generation of McClantons who I have come to know and love.  Great story-telling!  I recommend this book to anyone who likes WWII, and especially recommend it to kids who are studying WWII.  It works as a great learning device as well!  5/5 Stars
